January
There is a wide variation in rainfall across the region ranging from 100mm or more over much of Dorset and between 80mm and 100 elsewhere. However, sheltered areas to the east of the Berkshire and Wiltshire Downs may only receive 50 or 60mm.
February
Regionwide February rainfall is about 60-80mm but over parts of north Wiltshire the average is about 50mm.
March
Generally the average for March is between 60mm and 75mm but slightly higher over southwest Dorset.
April
Between 45mm and 55mm can be expected but over the high ground of Dorset especially towards the Purbeck Hills rainfall totals can be higher.
May
Generally little difference across the region with the average 45mm-55mm.
June
Hampshire, the Isle of Wight and Dorset are driest areas of the region in June with about 40mm-55mm of rain. Remaining parts can expect about 55mm-70mm.
July
Berkshire is the driest area of central south England in July with less than 40mm. Other counties experience between 45mm and 70mm.
August
Coastal areas and the Isle of Wight experience between 45mm and 65mm of rain on average but further inland totals range from 65mm to 75mm.
September
South and west Dorset are the wettest areas of the region with an average of between 75mm and 100m. Remaining parts can expect 55mm-75mm.
October
Much of Dorset and southwest Wiltshire has an average of 100mm or more but the rest of the region is likely to experience between 75mm and 95mm.
November
Dorset and the South Downs in Hampshire are likely to see the highest rainfall with an average of around 115mm. Remaining parts experience between 75mm and 95mm.
December
The driest parts of the region are Berkshire and north Wiltshire with around 90mm of rainfall. And the wettest parts are the Dorset hills with an average of 120mm to about 145mm. Over the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, south Wiltshire and lowland Dorset around 115mm can be expected.
